![]() With WiiM mini, I can say to Alexa "Play Leonard Cohen in the Kitchen". If you already have MinimServer installed for playing local files, follow the steps in the section Using an existing MinimServer installation. ![]() Its poor integration with Alexa skills is another example of a good hardware company unable to master the modern software development skills. To use MinimStreamer and MinimServer to play BBC MPEG-DASH or HLS radio streams on a UPnP renderer, you need to run MinimStreamer and MinimServer on a computer or NAS on your local network. Its statement about their lack of features sounds more defensive than progressive. It looks the Bluesound Node software is falling behind its competitors. WiiM mini software team has very agile development cycles and updates the firmware often (about 5 non-invasive releases during 1 month ownership). Of the two types of streamers I own: Bluesound Node and WiiM mini, I found myself using WiiM mini more. Using UpnP devices, I can play my music from the local network through foobar2000 and it sounds really good. After all, a Node is 5 times more expensive than a WiiM mini. My Bluesound Node was no where to be found. I found this thread after installing Foobar2000 Mac and saw two of my WiiM Minis both showed up automatically in foobar2000. I created the ''BBC Radio'' folder containing the ''BBC Radio DASH.m3u'' text file on my laptop and it is when I try to enter either the folder name or the text file name (exactly as shown above with a space) in a new contentDir box that I get the red error message 'not an absolutepath correct highlighted value and try again'.As a Bluesound Node 2021 user, I think it would be a very desireable feature for it to support UPNP rendering. Instead, you can use a one click Install button on the MinimServer configuration web page to install MinimServer and relaunch MinmServer. If I click on the green icon (showing my laptop name) the packages tab shows ''minimserver-0.8-update-133'' and ''minimstreamer-0.7.15''. I also have minimserver and minimwatch installed on my Windows 10 laptop. Okay, so the dealer that sold me the Melco (it's a HA-1NZ) kindly installed Minimserver and upon clicking the green icon (showing the Melco's friendly name) the packages tab shows ''ffmpeg-4.1-Melco-0.1'' and ''minimstreamer-0.7.15''. I am particularly incompetent in understanding how these things work! I feel sure that for those who are more familiar with using and adjusting settings on computers that your existing instructions will be more than adequate. I do not even understand how to find or create m3u playlists etc, etc.Īnd so, apologies for the length of this posting but can someone tell me in a simple step by step guide whether I can indeed get internet radio with my existing set up. However, having looked at the user guide I'm afraid I am completely lost in terms of understanding the various options that are discussed. ![]() I have therefore reacquainted myself with minimserver and have downloaded minimstreamer which seems to indicate that it might be possible to get internet radio. Unfortunately, when I now try to use v-Tuner I get an error message saying the selected device doesn't support v-Tuner. I recently introduced a Matrix Audio X-Spdif device in order to convert the USB output from the Melco to feed the I2s inputs on my PS Audio Direct Stream Dac and have experienced an uplift in sound quality when used in this configuration controlled by the Melco HD app. For example, an information file for the audio file Magnificat. I have controlled my music collection on the Melco by using either the Melco HD user app or Mcontrol HD without difficulty and have been able to play internet radio by using v-Tuner when using MControl. For each audio file, MinimServer looks for an information file using the following search order: A file named filename.pdf (exact-case match only) in the same directory (folder) as the audio file, where filename is the filename of the audio file without its file extension suffix. I own a Melco player which contains minimserver originally loaded by the dealer but which I've never knowingly used even though I was advised to install both minimserver and minimwatch on my windows 10 laptop which I did but quickly got lost when I tried to use it. Unfortunately when network audio is involved most players have issues. Every audio component should at least fall into the 'it works' category. The Lumin simply works great, sounds great, and looks great. 1st post from new member with very limited computer understanding. Pixel Magics Lumin network music player is really something special. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Waterfall hikes in oahu![]() It’s also dog friendly as long as you keep your 4 legged friends on leashes. This out and back trail is about 1 kilometer in length and is considered to be easy in difficulty. Alapena Pool and Kapena Falls TrailĪnother one of the best hikes in Oahu with waterfalls is the Alapena Pool and Kapena Falls Trail. Just be sure to check for debris and rocks at the base of the falls beforehand. These bottom falls are excellent for cliff jumping with spots about 15 to 20 feet in the air. It then makes its way down to yet another section of falls collecting in a deeper pool. ![]() This gorgeous waterfall trickles down to another small waterfall that’s about a hot tub sized natural pool. The trail is popular for hiking and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Waimano Falls Trail is a 4.5-kilometer, roundtrip hike located near Pearl City, and is rated moderate in difficulty. Please note that there is a small fee to park at the trailhead. Dogs are also allowed on this trail, so you can share the experience with your furry friends! The waterfall itself cascades 150 feet down the mountainside and is worth every step to get to it. It’s considered relatively easy in difficulty, so it’s great for all skill levels. It winds through a tropical rainforest filled with movie scene locations from Jurassic Park and LOST! The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and nature trips and is accessible year-round. Manoa Falls Trail is a 2.6-kilometer, out and back trail near Honolulu. While you’re here, seeing one of the beautiful waterfalls should be at the top of your vacation bucket list! To help you plan for an amazing trip, here are 5 of the best hikes in Oahu with waterfalls. The 15-foot Likeke Falls welcomes you at the end of the trail! Due to the trail’s increasing difficulty, I would recommend it for older kids and teenagers who are up for a moderate challenge. The Island of Oahu is absolutely breathtaking! However, there are some spots that tend to stand out among the rest. Expect some steep and slippery sections along the way. The trail begins in a residential area in Kaneohe, and while the first part is relatively easy, it gradually becomes more moderate as you ascend towards the falls. Tucked away in the Ko’olau Mountains, Likeke Falls offers a tranquil escape from city life. Due to the trail conditions, I’d recommend this adventure for older kids and teenagers who are comfortable with more challenging hikes. As you make your way through the forest, you’ll stumble upon the 50-foot Lulumahu Falls, surrounded by moss-covered rocks and serene pools. The trail features diverse terrain, including quite a bit of mud (especially in rainy season), stream crossings and rocky sections, requiring moderate fitness. Hidden in the Nu’uanu Valley, Lulumahu Falls provides a more adventurous experience for those seeking a moderate-level hike. Lifeguards are present, but parents should be mindful of kids who choose to swim. Once you reach Waimea Falls, take a plunge into the (very cold) water as a nice reward. Along the way, you’ll encounter cultural sites and learn about the island’s rich heritage. The hike to the falls is relatively easy, featuring a paved path that winds through a botanical garden filled with many local plants. Situated within Waimea Valley on the North Shore, Waimea Falls offers a fun experience for visitors of all ages. Remember to bring bug spray, as the area is known for mosquitos. As you hike through the tropical rainforest, be careful if it has can be really muddy! The 150-foot Manoa Falls awaits you at the end of the trail, where you can cool off in its refreshing water. The trail is well-maintained and gently sloping, making it suitable for hikers of all ages and fitness levels. Manoa Falls, located just outside of Honolulu, is one of Oahu’s most popular and easily accessible waterfall hikes. Hike Duration: Approximately 1.5-2 hours (round trip) The best news: Oahu’s waterfall hikes cater to all ages and fitness levels, making them ideal for families seeking outdoor adventures together. Whether you opt for the easily accessible Waimea Falls or want to get a bit more off-the-beaten path at Lulumahu Falls, each hike offers unique beauty and charm. Today I’m sharing some of the best waterfall hikes on the island, including details on difficulty levels, directions, hike durations and whether they are suitable for kids. For outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers, embarking on a waterfall hike on Oahu is an absolute must-do. One of the best things about Oahu hikes is that you almost always get a view, but on a select few hikes, you get a beautiful waterfall. When I get to the end, I want a pretty view or better…a waterfall. There’s nothing better (in my opinion) than a hike with a payoff. Looking for waterfall hikes on Oahu that the whole family can enjoy? Here are four Oahu waterfall hikes to consider for a fun outdoor adventure. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Condor vulture![]() But the surprising thing was how rarely the condors flapped when they were on their foraging flights. ![]() The results are unsurprising in one sense, as they found (and we already knew) that these birds soar by using thermals-warm rising air-as well as winds blown upwards when they contact mountain peaks (updrafts). Here’s a bird being tagged (two photos below from The Conversation piece) The data collected was so copious-320 pieces per second, that they couldn’t record it in real time, but had to recover the boxes from the roosting sites and download the data that way. The authors caught juvenile condors by luring them down with sheep carcasses, and than affixing clever electronic boxes to the birds, boxes that were designed to fall off after a few days when they were roosting. You can read the PNAS paper for free by clicking on the screenshot below the pdf is here, and full reference at bottom.Īnd, at The Conversation, one of the authors, Emily Shepard, describes the study in layperson’s terms (click on screenshot). You can see one desultory wing flap 36 seconds in, and another at 2:20. First, have a look at the soaring behavior of this bird in a 2½-minute video. The results are quite amazing: they hardly every flap their wings except when taking off. The condor is a denizen of the Andes and a carrion eater, now favoring large dead animals like cows and cattle, though before humans arrived it certainly feasted on the carcasses of native herbivores like guanacos.Ī new paper in PNAS (see below) gives data obtained by affixing electronic devices to eight condors, devices that recorded their altitude, whether they flapped their wings (measured by an accelerometer), and how far they traveled using an included GPS. Wikipedia notes that its wingspan is “exceeded only by the wingspans of four seabirds and water birds-the roughly 3.5 m (11 ft 6 in) maximum of the wandering albatross, southern royal albatross, great white pelican and Dalmatian pelican”. Their mean weight is 11.3 kg (25 lb), with males weighing about a kg more than females. The Andean Condor ( Vultur gryphus) is a bird with one of the longest wingspans in the world-about 3.3 meters, or 10 feet 10 inches. ![]() The reverse flow ensures that the design. The reverse flow prevents overheating of the meat and prevents sudden temperature spike when more fuel is added ( One of the major issues with offset smokers ). If looking for an entry level meat thermocouple get a Backyard Grill from wally world(they are actually cheapest), or search amazon for a next step up model with 2 TC's one for the grill surface temp and one for the piece of meat. In a reverse flow design, the heat & smoke is forced under the baffles or the tuning plates back over the meat and then through the chimney. The fire is lit in a chamber at the bottom of the main cooking chamber, and the smoke and heat travel up through a series of vents and baffles before reaching the food. since I've bored you with the science side of things A reverse flow smoker is a type of smoker that uses indirect heat to cook food. This slight change in design makes a world of difference as the heat and smoke from the firebox are forced to travel across the entire length of the smoker and back in order. Thermocouples don't really care how hard you bang them around provided the connections aren't compromised - the send a repeatable voltage across a linear range that is transduced by the reader Reverse flow is a lower smokier cooking technique, where you direct the heat flow under a plate, then back across the food. A reverse flow offset smoker looks somewhat different from a horizontal one, with its smokestack situated on the firebox end of the smoker instead of on the opposite end. Thermometers are inherently inaccurate due to the gears & springs inside, springs lose their "k factor" and these thing get banged around in drawers etc. Thermometers are typically bimetallic (two strips of metal laminated together that expand at different rates) with a remote sensing tip to transfer the heat to the spring coil or fluid filled with a fluid that expands a bourdon tube(think spring coil) as the fluid expands under heat with gears to drive the dial. The cooking grate is made from heavy duty expanded metal and the cooker comes standard with tuning plates and a log grate in the firebox. Thermocouples are made of two dissimilar metals fused at the tip and sheathed in a stainless jacket - the principle is temperature changes create varying millivolt signals that are standard depending on the TC type, the voltage is transduced by a handheld device into a digital readout. 3/1/2024 0 Comments Scribe medical uf![]() Students attending the program will take courses in medical terminology, anatomy & physiology, CPR, pharmacology, coding, computer business, and medical coding, finishing with a Medical Scribe Specialist Practicum. At some point you’ll need to go back to the beginning and optimise your run further. Then you will work on getting to the next boss, and the cycle repeats. To give it a proper go you will have to abandon the new area, return to the previous one and run through it over and over until you make it through at a more acceptable age. And of course, if you’re that old when starting the second level, you have next to no chance of clearing all five.īattles in store … Sifu. (I was in my late 60s after a solid day’s punishment.) You will have maybe a couple of lives left – enough for a nose around the next level, but no more. However, when you finally beat the first boss, the chances are you’ll be pretty old. When you die, you can try again at the last stage you had reached, your age and upgrades carried over. They are long, drawn-out and exasperatingly difficult at first (though shortcuts, once discovered, shorten the route to the boss). The action spans five levels, running the gamut of kung fu classics – drug den, nightclub, tower block. And when you do create a window of opportunity, it slams shut at lightning speed. Your combos are ducked or parried, your guard broken by volleys of enemy blows, collapsing you to the floor. The game appears to favour neither attack nor defence. The combat that forms the meat of the game is made of familiar parts – light and heavy attacks, a dodge, a pleasing suite of graceful bobs and weaves – but even veterans of hand-to-hand video game dust-ups will struggle to put them into practice. Sifu is punishingly difficult, built around a morass of jarringly unconventional ideas that are minimally explained. This is an alien concept at first, in keeping with a game that often seems more interested in confusion than entertainment. Once you hit 70, your next fall will be your last. The protagonist’s face wrinkles and hardens their health bar shortens, but the wisdom of age makes their attacks deal more damage. A “death counter” rises with every failure, adding to how much older you become each time you get back up: first one year, then two, then more. Die, and you can resurrect – but you pay the price with age. It is, paradoxically, the lifeblood of the game. Thankfully, death is not the end in Sifu. Except that here, instead of a rueful Chan-style grin to camera, the screen fades to black and you die. ![]() While it eventually lives up to its inspirations, Sifu initially plays out less like a Jackie Chan film than the blooper reel that runs under the end credits, with our hero mistiming a kick and falling on his arse, greeting a coffee table with his chin, or somehow contriving a wedgie from a stepladder. But if you’re here for a kung fu power fantasy, a word of warning: you are in for a wait.
